Eyebrows frame the face, reveal expressions, absorb perspiration and help shade our eyes from the sun. That’s a lot of jobs! Even though they’re small, brows play a big part in how you’re perceived by others and in some cases, by yourself. (Hellooo perfectionists!) When you don’t grow normal brows, brow envy sets in. The rational part of your brain forgets that celebrities and models, especially in mascara ads, are totally Photoshopped. No matter where you look, everyone else’s brows seem way better. It doesn’t have to be that way. For some women, permanent makeup (PMU), or micropigmentation, is the way to go, offering a long-term, low-maintenance solution. For those of you who prefer traditional makeup, or who use powder or wax in conjunction with PMU , here are some brow-making tips that will make you look and feel great — and more like “you.”
Eyebrows are sisters, not identical twins. Faces are not naturally symmetrical, so aiming for perfectly matched brows isn’t necessary, and can look fake.
Experiment to find the most comfortable setup: Sit down with a tabletop mirror, stand up a few inches from a wall mount, or alternate.
Think bike-riding. Once you get your balance, it comes easily. Cut yourself some slack in the learning phase. Trust that with practice, your coordination will get better and you’ll create pretty brows faster.
Invest in professional-quality brushes and take care of them. Excellent brushes can last a lifetime. The BGDL brush holder is a great way to keep them organized and protected.
Consult with freelance professional makeup artists to teach you flattering shapes for your face. Get different opinions and options. It’s just makeup.
Know your face shape (oval, round, heart-shaped, etc.). Find a celebrity with the same shape and notice what looks good on her!
Seek feedback from a close friend — one who is not afraid to speak up when your once-brown tattoos have shifted to an eerie shade of blue (and you hadn’t noticed.)
Frustrated by pencil? Switch to professional-grade powder and BGDL Sealer. You might be surprised at how quick and easy it is to powder on beautiful brows, even if you’re all thumbs.
Have the brows you’ve always wanted! Just because you used to have flat brows, who’s to say you can’t have an arched brow now?
Keep it in perspective: Other people are not obsessing about your brows. They’re taking in the total impression of a confident, beautiful you.
